Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge launched in India, price starts at Rs.48,900

South Korean tech major Samsung launched its flagship Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge phones in India on Tuesday. The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are Samsung's top-of-the-line Galaxy S phones for the year 2016-17. Prices start at Rs.48,900 for the 5.1-inch Galaxy S7, while the larger 5.5-inch Galaxy S7 Edge will cost buyers Rs.56,900. Both the phones are now available for pre-order and will be officially available to buy starting from March 17.
The company is offering a free Gear VR with the phones for those who pre-book them from March 8 to March 17.
To recall, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge at its Galaxy Unpacked event in Barcelona, Spain. The phones will be globally available for buy from March 11. India will be among the first markets globally where the devices will be available for buy, signifying the country's prominence among global tech majors.
Both the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge boast of almost similar design aesthetics as their predecessors. This means, much like the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, the new phones also come with glass and metal design. Samsung has employed curved 2.5D glass on the new Galaxy S7, while the Galaxy S7 Edge has a screen that curves on two sides giving you quick access to notifications etc al (via Edge panel).
Both the phones come with a microSD card slot for expandable storage and IP68 certification which makes them fast-food and water-resistant over 1.5 metres and up to 30 minutes.
Both the phones come with QuadHD Super AMOLED display with a 1440x2560 pixels resolution. The display also comes with an always on functionality.
They are powered by the same Exynos 8890 processor clubbed with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The new phones are 44 per cent faster in terms of CPU performance and offer up to 63.4 per cent better GPU performance over the outgoing models. Further, they support Vulcan API which brings PC-grade gaming on a mobile platform, according to the company. They come with a customised cooling solution (via heat pipe) to check overheating as well.
The dualSIM phones run Android 6.0 Marshmallow based TouchWiz UI and support 4G LTE connectivity option.
On the camera front, both the phones come with a 12-megapixel rear (with f/1.7 aperture and optical image stabilisation) and 5-megapixel front shooter combo.
While the Galaxy S7 uses a 3,000mAh battery, the Galaxy S7 Edge houses a bigger 3,600mAh battery. Both the phones support wireless and quick charging technologies.
The company also announced Samsung Concierge after-sales solution for Galaxy S7 buyers in India. Benifits of Concierge include a My Assistant option, fast track service along with phone pickup and drop.
